Hendy Artist Bio
It’s no surprise that Hendy would find his way. A Midwest-born musician currently living in Los Angeles, CA, Hendy has spent the past 4 years taking himself from an unknown artist to an underground name that has resonated throughout the Southern California scene. His sound combines conscious-driven hip-hop with soulful r&b melodies that provide a diverse range of upbeat and catchy anthems. His self-written music is a result of over a decade of songwriting that has carefully shape-shifted with time, ultimately leading him to where he is now.
The 28-year old musician, actor, and writer first found a love for creating music in middle school while covering the songs of iconic 90s and early 2000s rock bands. Throughout his developmental years, Hendy hopped between alternative rock bands with close friends as they played shows throughout Des Moines. After graduating from high school, he moved cities to attend the University of Iowa and began pursuing music in a new direction. Hendy would craft a sound around his deep-rooted love for hip-hop, rap, and r&b artists. All but abandoning the musical tastes that took him through his high school years, his influences would grow to become much more oriented with hip-hop culture, obtaining guidance from the likes of J. Cole, Anderson .Paak, Mac Miller, and Nas.
Upon graduating college, Hendy joined the hip-hop/r&b group LAV.ISH in 2017. The group would go on to play shows throughout the Midwest, including the opportunity to open for Lizzo in front of 4,500+ concertgoers at Hendy’s alma mater. As the group established their sound, Hendy found himself uncomfortable with his position within the collective. Feeling out of place, he decided to split ways with LAV.ISH in September of 2019 to begin his solo career. He released his first two singles, “A Little Bit Brighter” and “When You Know”, in the ending months of 2019 before releasing his debut 6-track E.P. “Conversations With Nobody” in January of 2020. The EP served as a launching point for his solo career as it would go on to obtain tens of thousands of streams and create buzz surrounding Hendy’s distinct sound.
The COVID-19 pandemic stalled the growth of Hendy’s career as artists throughout the world found themselves stuck with little opportunity to perform amidst the lockdowns. Using the downtime to reevaluate his direction as an artist, Hendy would move to Los Angeles, CA in March of 2021 with the goal of revamping his music career. He would go on to write and record his sophomore EP “A Change Of Scenery”, a 5-track project released throughout 2023. The project flexes a dynamic range of sounds, emotions, and topics with braggadocious bangers such as “Like That” and soulful anthems like “Cheers”.
Hendy’s eloquent flow, heartfelt lyricism, and melodious singing creates a sound that challenges the norm of mainstream hip-hop and rap. His refreshing and detailed sound is a result of an obsessive approach to songwriting. Although he is still in the early stages of his musical career, Hendy looks to show people that his intelligent word play and dynamic songwriting will make him a name to remember down the line.
