Born in Des Moines, IA and currently living in Los Angeles, CA, Hendy (Tyler Hendershot) combines conscious-driven hip-hop with soulful pop and r&b melodies that provides a diverse range of both upbeat and nostalgic anthems. His self-produced, self-written music is a result of over a decade of songwriting that has drastically shape-shifted throughout his life.
The 26 year old musician, actor, and writer first found a love for creating music in middle school while covering the songs of iconic 90s and early 2000s rock bands. Throughout his time in middle school and high school he hopped between a number of punk rock bands and played small shows throughout the Des Moines area. After graduating from high school, he moved to Iowa City, IA to attend the University of Iowa for his undergraduate studies. While in college, Hendy began to hone in on a deep-rooted love for hip-hop, rap, and r&b artists. As he started to abandon the musical tastes that took him through his early days, his influences would grow to become much more oriented with street culture, obtaining guidance from the likes of Anderson .Paak, J. Cole, Mac Miller, and Nas.
Upon graduating college, Hendy joined the hip-hop/r&b group LAV.ISH in October of 2017. The group, made up of lifelong friends, set out to pursue their wildest musical ambitions. As the group established their sound and roles, Hendy found himself uncomfortable with his inability to be a vocalist within the group. Feeling out of place, he decided to split ways with the group in September of 2019 to start a solo career. Upon leaving the band, he released his first two singles, ‘A Little Bit Brighter’ and ‘When You Know’ in the ending months of 2019. The singles would appear on his debut 6-track E.P. ‘Conversation With Nobody‘, which was released on January 5th, 2020. The E.P. went on to obtain tens of thousands of streams across all major streaming platforms and set the tone for the Hendy as a legitimate artist in the industry. He would follow up ‘Conversations With Nobody’ with the vibrant singles ‘Emerald‘ & ‘Nothing New‘ in the later part of 2020. After taking some time off of releasing music to focus on improving his craft and moving to Los Angeles, Hendy is set to return with his upcoming single ‘It’s Alright’, which is set to release on August 20th.
Hendy’s eloquent lyrical flow and heartfelt singing creates an old-school, nostalgic sound that challenges the norm of modern day mainstream rap. His refreshing and detail-oriented sound is a result of an almost obsessive approach to handwriting and self-producing the large majority of his music. Although he is still in the early stages of his musical career, Hendy looks to show people that his intelligent word play and dynamic musical capabilities will make him a name to remember for years to come.
